WSA Dryland World Championship 2024

The committee have been working really hard behind the scenes in conjunction with the World Sleddog Association and we are super excited to announce that Great Britain and AMWA will be hosting the 2024 world dry land Championships at Haughley Park in Suffolk on 23rd and 24th November 2024.

Please put this date in the diary and come and race with mushers from all over Europe.

There is lots still to do in organising such a great event, so the organising team may well be approaching members for your help.

Halloween Rally - Night /Day and WSA World Cup race

AMWA cordially invites you to our traditional season opening rally at Warren Wood in Thetford Forest, a new event location for this season providing a change of trail to shake things up. The trail will be circa 3 miles long and consist of the usual Thetford trail conditions of relatively flat soft loam trails with grass coverings in most places. Sat night kicks the first leg off to give the race a spooky start (Halloween Dress optional) so don’t forget to charge those lights followed by the second leg Sunday morning. The full event brochure can be found below, lets hope for a nice bumper entry to get the season off to a great start

AMWA Training Camp

AMWA are delighted to invite Members and Non Members to a brand new camp where you can train your dogs at your leisure. Courtesy of The Byerley Stud Estate there will be 3 trail distances available to get your dogs fit and flying for the start of the season. A short trail of approx 1.5 miles a longer trail of circa 3 miles and a long trail around 4-6 miles.

All abilities will be accommodated for, with the ability for newbies and older / slower teams able to run at different times to larger faster teams.

The trails are undulating grassy trails and exact distances will be published at the event.

So come join us for a relaxed camp, with booking available on a daily basis allowing you to pick the dates which suit you best within the event time frame.

Come and relax in The Meadows, set in the quiet Kent countryside close to Ashford.

We have the added bonus this year of a small woodland with a river flowing through, ideal for doggie dipping to cool off those paws.

Talks, quiz night and AGM will be held in a stunning 18th century barn, Fun dog show held in The Meadow, let’s GLOW evening stroll.

“It's not all about the dogs” sports event, time to get those bodies moving and have some fun.

Cheddar Backpack Weekend

Come and join AMWA on a challenging walk around the famous Cheddar Gorge.

The walk follows a cliff top path around Cheddar Gorge. Consisting of some steep ascents & descents, this challenging walk will reward you with fantastic views of the gorge and out across the Somerset levels to Glastonbury Tor to the east to the Bristol Channel and Exmoor to the west.

We leave the rally field down on the Somerset levels and head towards the Mendip hills; we follow the route around the gorge arriving at the pub, nestling in the gorge, for lunch. We then follow footpaths and roads through the village or take a longer route via the local reservoir back to the campsite.
