Application to Obtain an AMWA Working Number

An owner who believes they may have a purebred Alaskan Malamute, Siberian Husky, Greenland, CED, Samoyed or Yakutian Laika but no supporting registration paperwork can apply for an AMWA Working Number which if approved will allow the named dog to take part in AMWA Working Events (Rally’s & Long Distance Trek’s) and AMWA Back-packing scheme only

The applicant(s) must be a member of AMWA. If the application is unsuccessful the membership fee can be returned unless the applicant wishes to remain a member.

The Process:-

  • The owner registers their intent with the AMWA Working Number Co-ordinator which is John Binding who will also answer any queries concerning the process.

  • The cost of the process is approx. £80 which is purely to cover the cost of the DNA test (including postage). This can be paid by bank transfer or PayPal. Any fluctuation in this cost will be notified at the time of application.

  • The Owner downloads an Application Form from the link below. All sections up to signing the declaration are to be completed and a copy is to be emailed to John at Johnbinding@amwa.org.uk

  • A DNA Test – Wisdom Panel Breed Discovery (Swab sample) will be carried out by John and/or another Committee Member at a mutually agreed time and place which would normally be at an event. The sample will be sent by the Committee Member directly to the Wisdom Panel Laboratory. It will take approx. 3 weeks for the results to be available which will be emailed directly to the owner.

  • If the dog is not already Microchipped the owner must arrange for this to be carried out with their Vet.  This is a legal requirement.

  • Once the DNA Test results have been received a copy and any other outstanding supporting documentation is to be submitted to Working Number Co-ordinator

Supporting paperwork:-

  • Copy of DNA Test Results.

  • Copy of Microchip Registration document (If available)

  • Veterinary Confirmation of Neutering (If available)

  • Photo(s) of dog – Headshot & side profile

  • Additional Evidence (i.e. 5 Generation Certificates of Sire & Dam)

  • If the results of DNA Test is conclusive that the dog is proven to be one of the named breeds an AMWA Working Number will be allocated and the details recorded in the Register

The Working Number will be made up as follows:

AMWA2410M1234

 AMWA   24                    10                         M                      1234

(Club, Year of issue, Month of issue, for Microchip, last four digits of Microchip)

·         The Owner will then be emailed/written to confirming the allocation of the Working Number or reason for the application being declined as appropriate.
