Application to Obtain an AMWA Working Number

An owner who believes they may have a pure-bred Alaskan Malamute but no supporting registration paperwork can apply for an AMWA Working Number which if approved will allow the named dog to take part in AMWA Events only.

The applicant(s) must be a member of AMWA. If the application is unsuccessful the membership fee can be returned unless the applicant wishes to remain a member.

The Process:-

  • The owner emails the AMWA committee (thecommittee@amwa.org.uk) who will assign an AMWA Working Number Co-ordinator who will answer any queries concerning the process.

  • The cost of the process is approx. £65 which is purely to cover the cost of the DNA test. This can be paid by bank transfer / cheque/postal order or PayPal. Any fluctuation in this cost will be notified at the time of application.

  • The Owner downloads an Application Form PDF from the AMWA Website. The first sections up to confirmation of Neutering is to be completed and a copy is to be emailed to Working Number Co-ordinator.

  • The Working Number Co-ordinator will provide the owner with a list of Alaskan Malamute Breed Specialist nearest to where they live. 

  • A DNA Test (Swab sample) will be carried out by a Committee Member at a mutually agreed time and place which would normally be at an event. The sample will be sent by the Committee Member directly to the Wisdom Panel Laboratory. It will take approx. 3 weeks for the results to be available which will be emailed directly to the owner.

  • Meanwhile the owner gains three independent assessments from the Breed Specialist who will also annotate the results of their assessments on the Application Form.

  • If the dog is not already Micro chipped the owner must arrange for this to be carried out with their Vet

  • Once the DNA Test results have been received and the three assessments carried out, the Application Form and supporting paperwork is to be submitted to Working Number Coordinator

Supporting paperwork:-
